Jamison Ross

Jamison Ross, Snarky Puppy

Jamison Ross is a vocalist and drummer who amplifies and engages every soul with a deeper revelation of themselves; one rhythm, one song and one encounter at a time.

A native of Jacksonville, FL, Jamisons passion for music was realized while growing up in his grandfathers church, where he learned how to present music with honest intent. Jamison began his study of jazz as a high school student at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. He gained worldwide acclaim as a featured musician in the Tribeca Film Festival winning documentary CHOPS; a film that followed the schools jazz ensemble as they prepare and perform in the renowned Jazz at Lincoln Centers Essentially Ellington Festival competition.

Ross continued his studies at Florida State University (B.A., Jazz Studies), and at University of New Orleans (M.M., Jazz), in the city where he currently resides. While in New Orleans, Ross has toured and recorded with many of the industry elites; Jon Batiste, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Jon Cleary, Carmen Lundy, Dr. John, Patrice Rushen and Christian McBride. New Orleans was also the birthplace of his induction into the Grammy Award-winning supergroup, Snarky Puppy.

In 2012, Ross career began to reveal its purpose after winning the Thelonious Monk Jr. International Jazz Competition for his drumming. This achievement afforded him a recording contract with Concord Jazz. Jamison recounts, "At the time, people knew me as a drummer; they didnt know I could sing. I wanted to merge my gifts."

His 2015 debut release, Jamison, introduced the world to his concept of rhythm and melody and garnered a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album. His latest Grammy nomination is for his work as the producer of "A Man Born Black" by Mykal Kilgore. The hit single, "Let Me Go", was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance.

As one of the most promising names in music, singer and drummer Jamison shimmers between jazz, R&B, soul, gospel, and blues. Think of a mix of Donny Hathaway and Elvin Jones. One minute youre enjoying his uplifting, soulful vocal inflections, and infectious love of melody; the next youre digging his grooving, soulful drumming filled with passion for the moment.
